Robert Edward Payapaya, 74, of Kailua-Kona died Jan. 16 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Honolulu, he was retired roofer and a U.S. Army Vietnam War veteran. Born in Paauilo, he was a garage maintenance mechanic for the former Hamakua Sugar Co., employee of D&M Hydraulic Services, McDonald’s Waimea, Kona Mazda, Paauilo Nutrition Center and Brantley Center, and member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
